Our history

The Artistic High School was founded in Grottaferrata in 1990 and from the onset  itcarried forward  the desire for innovation and cultural research that distinguishes it.

Why the name San Giuseppe? This was because the school was actually born in the  Grottaferrata area and, the choice of the patron saint, St. Joseph who is the protector of all artisans, could not have been more appropriate! Over the years the structure had grown immensely, thus giving rise to the need to expand its premises. In fact, in 2014, the Institute moved to the center of the city, it’s present headquarters, in a historic building from the early 1900s, in order to comfortably accommodate at best the students in a structure where they can experiment with traditional techniques but also with advanced technology.

The structure was chosen specifically for its “from another era” aspect, because our school must be a welcoming and not impersonal structure! The slightly bohemian atmosphere helps you find the right inspiration, immersing yourself in an island outside the noise of modern life. Although it’s centrally located, the structure has at its disposal two large gardens, thereby enabling one to paint and study in open air.

Over the years, the school has participated in various initiatives in the area to bring the art of its pupils outside the school walls.

Wandering around the Castelli Romani, and beyond, you can admire the murals made over the years by our students, or you could find us among the stands of the Romics, or maybe visiting the MACRO Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome you could find our works, too?

Never enough, we don’t stop! And so in 2016 we created a brand, #ARTISTICisBETTER, which produces a line of clothing, design and comics, all made by our guys to be able to insert them into the world of work through their art.

What else?

Well let’s write the future together…!
